Sweetgrass Braid

Sweetgrass is one of the main herbs used by Native people. It is often part of the medicine used when smudging along with sage and cedar. Just as sage is used to clear negativity, to cleanse, Sweetgrass is used to bring in positivity. Use Sweetgrass after smudging once the negative energy is removed to cleanse ourselves again and to bring back positivity and calm. Sweetgrass is the sacred hair of Mother Earth. Its sweet aroma reminds people of the gentleness, love and kindness and honesty. It is used for smudging and purification of spirit. When Sweet Grass is used in a healing or talking circles it has a calming effect. Its smell when burned dry is a sweet smell, reminiscent of our ancestors and is said to attract good Spirits. Shave tips, place over charcoal tablet or light the end of the braid to burn.
